Jie Zhang is currently a postdoctoral researcher with the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland (UMD), where she also earned her PhD in 2017. Jie’s PhD research focused on agricultural drought monitoring, risk analysis and impact assessment from Earth observations. During her PhD, Jie was awarded a NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (NESSF) which supported her research for 3 years. Before joining UMD, Jie received her master’s degree in natural disasters from Beijing Normal University, China in 2011, working on vegetation water content retrieval from hyperspectral data, and bachelor’s degree in remote sensing from Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, China in 2008. Jie’s current research interests include satellite-based agriculture monitoring, vegetation response to climate change, crop modeling and water-food-energy nexus.
