Dr. Eric Vermote is part of the University of Maryland EOFSAC Hub, providing support for EOFSAC activities and research. He is a research professor as well as a Research Physical Scientist at NASA. His areas of interest and research for EOFSAC include

Biography

Eric Vermote received his Ph.D in 1990 in Atmospheric Optics from the University of Lille, Laboratoire d’Optique Atmospherique, France. France. Since 2009 he has been a Research Professor in the Department of Geographical Sciences of the University of Maryland. He is currently a Research Physical Scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory. His research interests are in radiative transfer modeling, vicarious calibration, atmospheric correction, aerosol retrieval, and the generation of climate data record for terrestrial studies. He is a team member of the NASA Moderate Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Science Team and is responsible for the surface reflectance product and monitoring instrument calibration and performance for the MODLAND Team. Dr. Vermote is a member of the NASA National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System Preparatory Project Science Team responsible for VIIRS atmospheric correction and EDR evaluation, and is responsible for the atmospheric correction over land surfaces in the visible-to-middle infrared. He is also leading the development of the atmospheric correction algorithm of TM/ETM+/OLI and Sentinel2/MSI data and is a Landsat Data Continuity Mission Science Team Member since 2006 responsible for the development of the surface reflectance product.
